2022 Prestige Beauty eCommerce Spotlight:
Online Sales In Decline in 2022


At the height of the pandemic, online beauty sales were on a tear. We’d reported on this in our April, 2021 Beauty Spotlight, noting that overall online beauty sales were up 51 percent year over year, 2020 vs. 2019. Given this unprecedented performance, the question lingered, could these growth stats really hold? We now have the answer to that question.

This spotlight highlights the decline in online sales of prestige beauty as shoppers online as more shoppers returned to the brick-and-mortar stores. Access data rich insights into top performing retailers and categories within this segment including:


•  14% year-over-year decline in online beauty sales across merchants
•  Macy’s and Target grew in share while other retailers faltered
